Okay, first things first – the nightmares! Can they figure out who’s sending them? Maybe… I don’t know… monitor you magically while you sleep or something?

You could ask Sigrid what she knows about beings with lots of eyes and tentacles and spider smooshing pincers?

Ask what other major plot points you missed out on. Maybe they know something that would explain Asotil’s no-show.

Also, ask about learning a different branch of restoration later. Maybe you can work your way from there to healing since they’re related types of magic.
Also, ask if they’ve heard anything about the Imperial Legion patrol schedule change.
Also, ask about your cat pun fire spell. Maybe they have advice on a better way to do it than cat puns.
Also, ask about the luck thing.
Also, ask if there’s a way to trigger your Atronach spell absorbtion not reliably.

Maybe you would’ve learnt healing magic if you, I dunno, ATE THE BOOK???

… would eating the book help me learn the healing spell?

Oh my gods, Katia, don’t eat the book. There are entire chapters explaining that you are not supposed to literally eat the book. The newer editions just took the entire metaphor out because it was such a problem.

Writing a spell down theoretically does imbue a small amount of-

Don’t encourage her, Steph! You know that wouldn’t even work with a proper scroll and crystalline ink.

With a single scroll, yes, but if you had an entire book imbued with the same spell, the ink properly charged by a qualified enchanter, and the recipient experienced with wortcraft, it could be interesting to see whether it has any effect on casting ability if eaten.

If you want to write a thesis on it, I’ll write Miun-Gei asking him to scribe a stack of tortillas. But nobody should be eating books.

Asking every question you have at once might not be a good way to change the topic. Try one big question instead. Mention that you met Gaius & learned about his dreams & his conversation with Vaermina. Explain how you have nearly identical dreams & ask if Sigrid would have happened to maybe saved that number that Gaius threw away so you could contact her. Or if there’s another way to contact Vaermina, preferably without encountering that scary green snake claw eye monster you caught a glimpse of before your call with the Omen was cut off.

Speaking of complex magic stuff, there was another… thing, I wanted to ask some questions about. It’s kind of a long and complex story. Like, really long and with a lot of necessary context. I guess it begins with-

Hold on, Sigrid says, I’m casting one of my old personality boosting spells on you.

I thought you gave those up, Stephane asks.

It was a spell to make her more charming, not me. If anything, the fact I want to be on the receiving end of this morally justifies all my past actions. Anyway, Katia, hurry up and say your thing before I have to cast it again and Steph bitches more.

Ever since I was a child, I’ve had nightmares about a king. It was always the same nightmare: a king with a glowing diamond on his chest, looming in the distance, growing more twisted and dangerous the less I feared him. After I moved to Cyrodiil, though, something about the nightmares changed. They got more intense, more violent – until two days ago, something in the nightmare spoke to me. It told me not to be afraid, and that it would be back later. It didn’t seem like it was in control.

When I met Captain Gaius, we realized we were having nearly the same nightmares. Even Vaermina didn’t know what was causing his, but she asked him to reach out to her if it ever tried to communicate with him. So, being in that position, I tried to reach her tonight. I connected to Quagmire by way of the Soul Cairn, and persuaded an Omen to enter Vaermina’s citadel to find her. And it almost did find her, until something killed it. Something I don’t think was supposed to be there, pressing in on all sides with claws and eyes.

Like this. I guess I’ve been working on this the entire time I’ve been speaking? I’m really confused about what exactly “personality boosting” entails.

The invading presence didn’t just kill the Omen, though: it also took control of the leyline I was using. It looked at me, directly, and said the words “I haven’t seen you”, before the Soul Cairn-

Sorry, you say. Are people supposed to drink straight flax like this?

Probably not, Sigrid says. I figured you’d just sprinkle some on your ice cream, but I guess that wouldn’t do much for an atronach.

What do you mean, “wouldn’t do much for an atronach”?

I mean that a little bit of flaxseed on top of ice cream isn’t going to do much for you.

Does alchemy just… work less well for me, or something?

No, Sigrid says. You just have a lot of magicka to restore, and a handful of seeds is barely going to scratch the surface.

I, ah, admit I’m still trying to get a handle on the amounts. Full and empty feel the same to me. I drank the biggest magicka potion I could find, and my Cairn skeleton said it took me up to “seven and a quarter gallons”. He implied it wasn’t that much.

Well, yeah, Sigrid says. You’re an atronach.

The biggest potion you can find isn’t going to scratch the surface.
