Zargothrax: This has to be one of the most adorable Katias here, to date!
Hm. I've got to say the rendering looks oddly inconsistent, as if it was made by 2 artists (face <-> hood, neck, robe), strange.
Still, damn adorable!
Zargothrax: Aw, the blinking animation is so adorable!
And all outfits are portrayed really well
I love how her expression stays the same throughout her journey... She only cries internally.
Zargothrax: @Skybolt06: That is how I felt about the community as well when I joined, almost 3 years ago. My opinion didn't change too much, to be honest!
And yeah, nice cat!
Zargothrax: @Skybolt06, @KuroNeko: Thank you!
The game is set in a high fantasy setting, with something called "source magic", that is wielded by sourcerers. You're one of them. Using source magic can bring creatures over from the void as a side effect, so sourcerers are usually kept under close watch as prisoners and are usually executed or worse...
Each race has a god, and yours called out to you, to be their champion, become Divine and stop the invasions of the void creatures. But you have companions (you travel in a team of 4) and their god did the same to them. And in the end there can be only one Divine.
The best I could describe the game is that it's a true, tactical RPG with very well written characters. No wonder it's developers were tasked to make Baldur's Gate 3 after D:OS2. There are a lot of similarities.
And good luck with the PC, considering the graphics card shortages and scalpers. I wanted to buy one too, later this year, but that seems rather hopeless.
Zargothrax: Never really understood the rationale behind featuring for such a long time. There are many great submissions from artists that are still active, and even more that are several years old gems, waiting to be rediscovered. Therefore, to me it would make more sense to feature something for ~2 weeks, alternating between something new and something old. But maybe I just don't 'get' something behind the decision for featuring longer.
Zargothrax: She also seems to have discovered Skyrim modding, by the looks of the impressive improvements in physics simulation and —more tellingly— by where it is mainly applied
Zargothrax: @ADudeCalledLeo: The AI got confused there.
And at this point I'm not sure if this should be tagged as Mysticism or Dwemer technology... But either way, it's awesome that this happened!
Zargothrax: I recommend you google "upside down drawing". I don't think it's necessary for me to explain it, others have done so much better than I could.
I've heard people saying that it's not a good way to practice, but what they are forgetting is that it's not for artists with intermediate (or better) skills and it's not something you have to practice for years either. It's an exercise that can do wonders when you've just started out in drawing from reference. Practicing it for just 1 weeks in my opinion should be enough to learn what that exercise is supposed to teach you.
Zargothrax: @NotGodOkay: The Saturalia minigame series from last year in which Quill went through a series of Christmas themed dreams/nightmares. It was supposed to open a new level every day. But some levels arrived with delays. We are still waiting for the last level, day 28. The levels ended with Quill waking up, or licking eggnog, then presumably waking up. But since the last level never came, she never awakened.
@Skybolt06: Thank you. What I'm really proud of here was the speed. I work really slowly, that's why I don't have that much art here. But this was done in 4 hours, which is quick by my standards.
@KuroNeko: Quill will be in a nasty surprise when that happens. No more booze.
Zargothrax: You're welcome!
Understanding the toolset in digital art is as much of a challenge as learning anatomy. But they are there to help, not to obstruct. It's important to try out different workflows with different tools from time-to-time. But for now, well done!
Zargothrax: @_Noxygen_: I forgot to answer earlier, but I'm also working with Krita.
If you're just starting out, the basics are: sketch, but on a separate layer than the background, (and put the sketch of the clothes on an another layer if you are drawing full body) then turn the opacity of the sketch layer(s) down, and ink on an other layer, then turn off the sketch layer(s), and create a new layer BEHIND the ink layer, on which you paint the colors. This is the most basic workflow you can have.
An another way to color is with the "colorize mask editing tool" in Krita. It's a very powerful feature, I use it frequently for base coloring. I suggest you look it up.
The most straightforward way of shading is to make your color layer into a clipping group, by selecting it, then pressing ctrl+shift+G, and adding a new layer on top of it inside the group and setting the blending mode of it to multiply. If you then paint onto that layer with a gray color, that will cast a shadow onto whatever color you had there on the color layer.
If you want to see over-complicated ways to see how to shade, take a look at my previous post where I detailed my Krita workflow: >>7268, but in all seriousness, if you are just starting out with digital, for now, don't overburden yourself with these things.
Zargothrax: That was quite exciting! Also Katia has a lot of HP to survive 7 shots, regardless where they hit!
For some feedback, there shouldn't have been plot foreshadowing upon emerging from the water.
I mean, "it wouldn’t be too hard to get back", but why would they want to anyway? And why specify that the incoming boat looked legitimate? At that point in time neither the characters, nor the reader should have known that they are tricked.
They should've emerged from the water, noticed the K47 ships, call Foles, tell him his ships are at a visible distance. Then he replies saying that's impossible, they are still supposed to be miles away, they can't be there. But then who are? Dun-Dun-DUUUUN!!! (dramatic sound effect)
Zargothrax: @bluedraggy: Aw, you're too kind. As for the techniques used, painting shadows on a blank mask is a well known technique I can recommend. Calculating the lights from that with the curve functions on the other hand is something I came up with mid-drawing, so I wouldn't really call that a reputable technique, use with caution.
@Rick2tails: Thank you!
@KuroNeko: Well, maybe someone can point out something to improve upon it! As for perfecting a drawing, it's good to do from time to time. Emphasis on that though. Compare how many uploads you have, compared to me. I'm not an example to follow when it comes to balancing out when to move on. I'm quite "tense" when it comes to drawing. If something looks off, it's not good enough, I can't look past it. Loosening up somehow would be nice.
@Varanonegro: Gracias!
@TempIntel: Thank you. I tried drawing without the anatomy first a few times and it never ended well. With a complicated pose like this, it was out of question to leave it out.
Zargothrax: Tempintel is the unsung hero of the collaboration. The chain of Katias could not be connected, because there was a Katia who required a brush being held really low to be painted on. So, he drew a Katia that held the brush low, but could be painted on high (on the foot), so that it could be connected with the previous one. <salutes>
