AMKitsune: Absolutely amazing. 3D renditions are always a treat when they appear, but to also include the model itself, that's a step above and beyond.

- Reply
AMKitsune: You modelled the boat? Well there goes any respect I ever had for you or your work. Such a shame to, if only you cared enough and weren't so lazy...

- Reply
AMKitsune: Now I simply have to ask how this was made.

My first guess would have to be that you 3d modelled the pier, then drew over it with your normal vector program, adding in the boat and Katia, then painting the shading and texturing on top of that.

My second would be that you didn't use 3d, but instead used some kind of perspective guides.

Third, and least likely, would be that you just freehanded the whole thing. No references, no guides.

AMKitsune: She seems understandably perturbed by the implications of the giant glowing text.

- Reply
AMKitsune: I need to add, the original version of this had next to no thought or effort put into it, and was generated as a shit-posty reply to a discord conversation. Hence the additional fingers, tails, e.t.c.

- Reply
AMKitsune: Ah yes, it's good to see Rollanan's evil twin 'Wollanan' back at it again.

- Reply
AMKitsune: I appreciate the addition of raw-unblended Katia. The main pic looks like it has a lot of potential, with what appears to be some very nice modelling, but unfortunately the lighting (or lack there-of) really holds it back. It's next to impossible to see what's going on besides the lantern, part of the bad, and the lower half of Katia.

AMKitsune: @lapma: That feeling when you don't have to worry about being considered royalty, as you're instead worshipped as a divine being (in the ancient Egyptian sense. Not referring to any of the more dedicated fans.).

Adorable stuff as always.

@rollanan: I can think of a sum total of 0 reasons why you shouldn't.

AMKitsune: I was going to ask why you replaced her hand (wearing a glove, or perhaps a mechanical hand after some workplace accident?), but it then occurred to me that those aren't necessarily 'her' arms, and that this minifig could have come with its own yellow arms.

- Reply
AMKitsune: That looks more painful than it has any right to.

- Reply
AMKitsune: @rollanan: I've seen evidence on this very booru to the contrary.

- Reply
AMKitsune: I have to admit, this is one instance where your simple art style tripped me up a little. To begin with, I couldn't tell if Katia was holding a couple of feathers, or flipping someone off. Then I saw the 'magic fire' tag, and now it all makes sense.

- Reply
AMKitsune: @NewFace: Currently, it only auto-converts "katia" and "katiamanagan" to the full "character:Katia_Managan" tag. There are so many potential variations of the tag (for Katia alone, not even considering other characters), that we'd need so many rules to convert all the possible variations, it would become a bit of a nightmare to manage.

AMKitsune: Seeing all these ancient Egyptian aesthetic pics being uploaded recently reminded me that I had an old looking, side on piece of 'ancient looking' imagery of my own. (not necessarily Egyptian themed. that's much further back in the booru's history.)

Given how long ago I made this (quite a significant while ago), I'm surprised it wasn't already on here.

AMKitsune: Ok, to start, hand drawn pencil animation is rare enough as it is, so is impressive to see by itself.
The fact that you also lined it up so that the printed lines stay in place, even better.

- Reply
AMKitsune: Magic is stored in the head.
Katia has a promising life as a mage ahead of her.

- Reply
AMKitsune: No idea how you achieved it (textured brush, some kind of filter, or a textured overlay of some sort) but that shading (and rendering in general) is chef's kiss material.

- Reply
AMKitsune: And Katia's as surprised as the rest of us.

- Reply
AMKitsune: 'This one' may not like it, but 'that one' doesn't seem to mind.

- Reply
AMKitsune: Compared to your previous QW attempt, you're definitely heading in the right direction. These are a much better blend of her admittedly awkward facial anatomy, and your simplistic, adorable style.

- Reply
AMKitsune: Ok, so I was in a little discord screen share call with Kaz and co. earlier, and while everyone else was being productive, I ended up doodling a little Katia, who ever so slowly over the course of the call, got sadder and sadder. She's just been waiting for so long...

This is your fault Kaz. You could have prevented this!

- Reply
AMKitsune: ... that took me longer to decipher than it reasonable should have.

And don't be rude Katia. She's clearly happy to be making a new friend.

- Reply
AMKitsune: In which case, very well done.

- Reply
AMKitsune: @rollanan: So hang on, does Inkscape have features for onion-skinning animation frames, or are you literally doing this 'stop motion style', drawing a frame, exporting it, modifying it into the next frame, exporting that, and so on? Without any timing guides?

- Reply
AMKitsune: This... this is art. And I'm not just saying that because it's been so long since an update!
Very well done to everyone involved.

- Reply
AMKitsune: @Fleaux-Ecosse: That's a very fair point, and I stand corrected.

And I can see how the Aggy page would break offline. I didn't play any part in it's production, but if I recall, it did something with querying an external site before deciding how much of the page to display.

AMKitsune: (Uh oh...)

- Reply
AMKitsune: Seconding Zargothrax's misinterpretation of the thumbnail.

Even if it is a paint-over of a 3d render, it looks awesome.

If you're still willing to share your model, I'd love to see how you went about sculpting/building it. (even if you just post screenshots, or dare I suggest, and animated turntable!)

AMKitsune: @rollanan: Terrified of commoners.

- Reply
AMKitsune: Katia failing to notice the subtle difference between the 'mage hands' pose, and the racially questionable 'nyan' pose. It's all in the hands.

Simultaneously badass, and adorable!

- Reply
AMKitsune: A very dynamic pose, for such a simplistic style. Very well done indeed.

- Reply
AMKitsune: I love how she's looking at the word 'Albumen' as if thinking "so that's what the white's called."

- Reply
AMKitsune: This is functionally pointless (assuming the site doesn't spontaneously combust), and I'm all for it! There's always something strangely satisfying about taking something that only exists digitally, and making something physical out of it.

How much of the site did you manage to scrape? Just the comic itself, or also the additional stuff, like the side stories and other miscellaneous pages?

- Reply
AMKitsune: I don't know about that.
A nice bed, comfy pyjamas, notable lack of regrettable drunk escapades. Looks like there was no fuckery in any direction!

(unless the homestuck reference implies something terrible...)

- Reply
AMKitsune: I'm not sure what would be worse. Her somehow managing to lick her own eyes, or if she could blink with a second set of transparent eyelids like alligators have...
No, it would be the licking, for sure.

- Reply
AMKitsune: The modded colours really do make a world of difference. I've tried making skyrim Katia before as well (also using the same eye mod), but the look never ends up looking right.
This though, is about the closest yet to a spot on Katia characters that I've seen. The only small thing that I could see making it perfect would be if the cheek tufts were a little more pronounced, but that's getting into the realms of remodelling the head mesh, and that's a different matter entirely!

Fantastic job.

- Reply
AMKitsune: I have absolutely ZERO clue what the story leading up to this point has been trying to convey, but I approve of this sudden 'filing cabinet cat'.

- Reply
AMKitsune: Katia: "So, you created me?"
Kaz (doing his merry little leprechaun jig): "Aye, for sure, that I did."
Katia: "But you're so... tiny! How did you even..."
Kaz: "Ye pixels are just the right size for me to carry around in me magic backpack."
Katia: "But still, you're positively miniscule!"
Kaz: "... I have a family history of leprechaun dwarfism, and didn't eat me veggies growing up as a wee sprout. Get off me case woman!"

AMKitsune: Luxurious locks to rival the Mane himself!

- Reply
AMKitsune: Behold, it's Katia Mana-chan! (Or Chan-agan. Whichever you prefer)

- Reply
AMKitsune: @Vahrama: It's a weird thing with how some cameras embed rotation data into the photo, and how the site doesn't quire understand (so consequentially ignores) it. No worries though. It's easy enough for us to fix these little 'wrongly rotated images' whenever they show up.

Nice crime cat by the way.

AMKitsune: Tikaka very kindly offered to doodle my character after offering a little website stuff help.
Not having a character of my own, I asked if I could have a Katia instead.
And lo and behold, instead of a mere doodle, we ended up with this little bundle of cute.
Look at that warm, snug little face. Look at it!

- Reply
AMKitsune: On the one hand, hooray! She has a nice comfy bed, pyjamas, and the pic is very well done.
On the other hand, oh no! Now she's having nightmares about inanimate objects as well!

- Reply
AMKitsune: @Cobaliuu: Confident posture and smile. That's my guess.

- Reply
AMKitsune: An awesome trick? Or moments before an epic wipeout? Why not both?

- Reply
AMKitsune: I'm getting some serious 'sky pirate' vibes here.
Awesome adventure Kat!

- Reply
AMKitsune: I once asked Kaz to draw Katia looking into a mirror and seeing herself reflected as a 'realistic khajiit'. He drew... something, with crayons.
But this is what I imagine she'd really look like (if not a cartoon character). Actually, the more I look at this, the weirder the proportions of the original reference image start looking to me.

- Reply
AMKitsune: From the thumbnail, I initially saw her ears as being long hair done up in a bun, which struck me as being a very dignified style for a dignified lady reading her book.
Now that I see this in full, I'm more amazed by how fluffy she is here!

- Reply
AMKitsune: Really? You don't say? Well that's fascinating, and I would have never guessed.

AMKitsune: Katia knows many tricks. Some actually suitable for civilised company. Not this one mind you. It's far too radical for those stuffy, top hat wearing 'civilised' people. This is a trick for the 'cool' people.
