Streetwind: @Sashimi: Have you considered introducing a tag to group all the artwork that relates to your story under? For ease of browsing and such.
Sashimi: @Streetwind: Hey, that's not a bad idea! Course, all the tags I've done get changed at some point.
Sashimi: @Streetwind: Okay, all of the relevant pics to the story are now tagged with Sashimi_story, so you can see them in one grouping. That is, until someone changes the tags and omits my addition.:p
Sashimi: @Sashimi: All the relevant pics are in this pool http://www.prequeladventure.com/fanartbooru/pool/view/12 I don't have all of the pics posted to the booru yet, but most are.

Rick2tails: why did my post dissapear as well? an explanation would be nice
Kazerad: @Rick2tails: @FoxyGrandpa: Whoops, sorry, I deleted a few. They were leading to some kind of risque material. I'm sorry, I'm a bad mod. I think AMKitsune's chewing me out for it

FoxyGrandpa: Sorry man, I didn't realize I was poking in the wrong places there. Just curious what people were talking about. :V
Kazerad: @FoxyGrandpa: You did nothing wrong! Nobody did, really. It was just a sequence of posts that was going to lead saucy places very fast.

bluedraggy: Surely you jest Sashimi! Not only did he write helpful and clearly knowledgeable criticism, but he posted what it could have looked like as well! I hate to think how long that took him to do - all for my benefit! Kind? I want to kiss his toes! (well, metaphorically speaking.) If you don't think I'm going to take his suggestions to heart, you're wrong. Not this one - it's over and done with for me. But damn that's a good revision! I said it was the best I could do at the time. Already I bet I could do better. I'm sure as hell not going to berate the guy who helped me do that!
Sashimi: @bluedraggy: Well I don't mind that someone is willing to offer constructive criticism, and it's nice to offer helpful solutions, but for someone to just flat out say your work is not good, that doesn't sit well with me. It could have been worded differently.
Radian: Well, "not really good" doesn't mean "it sucks and you suck too". It's middle, neutral point between "bad" and "good". It's not bad and not wrong, it looks like work made by beginner who aren't know much (we all was here). Honestly I said so because of comments like "Excellent" and "Impressive".
But If it's "The best I can do coloring at mu current skill level" then it's time to change something. Like a way how you work, way how you learn and what you think. Maybe it's time to learn your fundamentals. The fact you are only coloring drawings dome by other people means you are skipping most important part. Take a pencil and start drawing. The better you becomes at drawing - the better you will understand the form - the faster and easier will be shading and coloring. Other problem is what you are shading highly stylized drawings. I'd recommend draw\learn from photos or much better from live. Start with simple things. This overpaint was very fast and I spent about half of the time cleaning and selecting different parts. (also I like to overpaint when it's about render, very relaxing) @Sashimi: do you want to talk about it? ;) Got a critique - skip not helpful parts, analyze and use helpful parts. As I said it was more like "-oh mate, it's so good" "-no it isn't, you can do better if you...". Yeah, it could be worded better (I need better english skillz). Damn, I need to learn how to not make walls of text. But art is kinda complex thing, it's hard to simplify.
realbboy: It might just be me but I think the perfectly rowed scales despite the curvature of Quill's body looks kinda weird. I'm not really sure if this could be easily fixed though.
Maybe angle the scaled based on where they are on the body?
bluedraggy: Naw, I'm with you realbboy. I actually did rotate the ones on her left arm at roughly shoulder level, but realized that still doesn't help since I'd have to rotate over every bend. If I go that route again, I'd use some hexagonal and staggered scales so they didn't form straight lines anyway. But I probably won't even try that again. Leather texture worked pretty well though.
Sashimi: @Radian: (Well, "not really good" doesn't mean "it sucks and you suck too".) See, when I first read the "not really good" part, I took it as "not good" and it struck me as basically saying the effort sucked. When I made the "excellent" remark, I wanted to show support for someone who is far better at this than I, but it's not in comparison to something like the Mona Lisa. As they say, art is subjective, and I think it was a good job. I'm glad people are willing to offer assistance and I definitely think we can offer suggestions without being disparaging of ones work. I guess If your earlier response was worded similar to below, I wouldn't have said anything.
Radian: Hey, I have some pointers that might help improve your technique if you're interested. Don't use black for shadows and white for lit parts. Since you are a novice painter, use simpler tools, use blending modes. Layer 1(2,3) - line and flat colors Layer 2 - multiply, fill it all, use mask, erase lit parts, use softer brush, play with layer color with HSV curves Layer 3 - multiply, paint shadows in parts like tits, armpits, fingers. Or better check Makkon guide, he write and show it better (more complicated though). Now go and make new Magnum Opus that I think will be more to your liking. Just a bit more diplomatic in my opinion. Sorry, I didn't mean for my comment to blow things up. I usually try to avoid stirring things up, but it doesn't always work out so well. |

doodlemancer: I keep asking myself this every day too ( ; _ ; )
MikeyTheFox: Kaz will now place this down next to his PC, and look at it with pride when he procrastinates updates when he plays TF2's MVM with us XD
Kewot_Rokar: At this rate, each consecutive update is a Half-Life 3.
Tahrey: Maybe that's actually the thing. The frequency of each update is determined by t+1=t^lambda(t) or however that equation used to go.
Tahrey: Ah, I was getting confused with something else.
It's actually
Where N (or A) is the amount (or activity) left at time T, and N0 (or A0) is how much you had / how active it was at time 0. |

bluedraggy: I know - the background really sucks. That's why I don't do draws. But I like the rest pretty well. There may have been the LITTLEST sense of urgency with finishing though because the next one in the series is my absolute favorite Rajirra ever - but I'll leave it to Sashimi to post the drawing for that one.
Rick2tails: Rajirra looks nice here !

bluedraggy: Ended up going with the shiny version, and copped out on the water and just put in a photo. But I likey! And if she has certain bazooka-like attributes, I can at least say I stayed with the original linework. Amazing what shading can do.
bluedraggy: Heh - it's a Misheard Line. (Wouldn't make sense if you think about it). There were two scenes, the King of the World one with Leonardo, and a Flying scene with Kate Winslet. They get confused. Though I hope I didn't make this one THAT kinky!
Rick2tails: looks great! good coloring!
bluedraggy: Thx Rick! So, is this officially the Only unabashedly happy Quill that Kaz has ever drawn? I think it may be.
Bakannon: For some reason I remember the original version of this very clearly from the stream. Regardless, I do really like the mixed media look.

bluedraggy: I was the PICTURE of modesty and purity with this one. I didn't even make the SLIGHTEST indication of anything untoward in this image. Not even sweat! (oh, dammit - Raydio that would have been cool too!) I'm the picture of innocence! Any alternate versions are purely hack jobs.
And after Radian's comment on Red Eyes Katia, I broke out my ancient copy of Poser, loaded that ancient Krystal model, posed her similarly and put the light source where it is here. This is Goddamn Accurate! (well, pretty much anyway). (Now I'm going to wish I'd made Sweaty Fitia.)
madmanransom: Is nice, yes.

Sunny: Her head is not the thickest part of her body! This picture is non-canonical!
It's still good, though.
bluedraggy: @Sunny - She must have lost a lot of excess weight doing all that exercise. (From her head!)
Well, actually it looks more like it was redistributed. Maybe she was learning some new weightlifting techniques from Quill. (I'll let you-all ponder that one.) |
