Infiltrate Footprint Maps

Remember Katia: Infiltrate, that minigame where Katia is invisible and you can only see her footprints? Displaying the footprints like that required every step to be written onto an image file, meaning that by the end of the game, there was an image showing the entire noodly path you had taken. Example:

Rather than let these images be lost to the aether at the end of the game, we decided to collect them. That loading screen when you enter the Mages Guild wasn’t actually downloading anything – it was uploading your footprint map. We collected them for about three weeks, and by the end we had over 16,000.

There really isn’t a lot to do with these other than share them for fun. The following three links contain “compilation” images, showing thousands and thousands of different footprint maps placed overtop one another. The darker an area in this image, the more people stepped there, and in a few places there is a “ripple” effect where everyone walked away from a single point with their strides aligned. These maps also include the interior areas, since we apparently forgot to turn the footprint collection off. Whoops!

We were also able to sort the maps by filesize. By size, this is the smallest footprint map, roughly representing the person who strode into the Mages Guild in as few steps as possible:
